Who We Are
As a result of the Master Settlement
Agreement (MSA) between the United States Tobacco Product
Manufacturers and 46 states, including Ohio, Governor Bob Taft
signed Senate Bill 192 in 2000. This Bill allowed for the
creation of the Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Foundation
(TUPCF). TUPCF has become the champion for Ohio's plan to reduce
tobacco consumption. The mission of TUPCF is to reduce tobacco
use among Ohioans, with an emphasis on reducing the use of
tobacco by youth, minority and regional populations, pregnant
women and others who may be disproportionately affected by the
use of tobacco.
The Tobacco-Free Healthy
Communities Coalition implements the Tobacco-Free Healthy
Communities Project (TFHCP) which is a comprehensive program to
reduce tobacco use (including smokeless) among pregnant women,
youth, adults and minorities. Target areas for this project are
Clinton, Fayette, Greene and Warren Counties and the Cities of
Hamilton and Middletown. The TFHCP started in November 2002.
