Eligibility: Greene County residents
Purpose: To prevent the incidence of human and animal rabies in Greene County.
Description: Dogs, cats and ferrets that are involved in biting incidents are required to be quarantined for a period of 10 days. Prior to being release from quarantine these animals must be properly vaccinated. Animals that die during the quarantine period are sent to the Ohio Department of Health laboratory for analysis. All wild animals and other animals that can be infected by the rabies virus are required to be humanely euthanized and tested for the rabies virus. Recommendations for medical treatment of rabies bite victims are given as appropriate. The Health District cooperates with law enforcement agencies, hospitals, and animal control officers in providing this program
