GCCHD Receives Minority Health Month Grant (April 2009)

(XENIA, OH)  The Greene County Combined Health District (GCCHD) has been awarded a Minority Health Month Grant from the Ohio Commission on Minority Health. The award is for $2,500.00 and is allowing GCCHD to bring important oral health information to the Greene County community with two (2) events:

The GCCHD dental staff, along with Dr. Darryl L. Mabra, D.D.S., shared information with and performed oral health screenings during a health class of 50 students at Central State University on Monday, March 30, in celebration of Minority Health Month 2009.  The theme was “It’s More than Your Smile…It’s Your Health”.  The students were informed about the link between oral health and diabetes and obesity.  The session included information on how to prevent these and other oral health-related diseases.

On Thursday, April 9, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., a public health fair will be held at Central State University.  This health fair will be held in the rotunda of the Center for Education and Natural Sciences and is open to the public.  Dr. Mabra and GCCHD dental staff will be repeating the same educational information as well as conducting oral health screenings.
