Countywide Disposal of Spoiled Food and Food Debris

(Xenia, OH)  The Greene County Combined Health District (GCCHD) and the Greene County Commissioners: Ralph Harper, Alan Anderson and Rick Perales want the community to be informed about an opportunity to dispose of food and food items that have spoiled after this extended power outage.

Food debris, spoiled food and other food items only may be disposed of at the following location:

On Thursday, September 18, 2008 from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m. and Friday, September 19, 2008 from

8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., a dumpster will be placed at the Xenia Demolition Landfill located at

610 Dayton-Xenia Road, Xenia, Ohio. This dumpster will only be for the disposal of food debris and spoiled food. Greene County residents are invited to bring their spoiled food to the Xenia Demolition Landfill and place it in the appropriate dumpster for proper disposal.

Only food debris and spoiled food will be accepted. This site will be staffed with Health District employees and volunteers to assist residents in this process. Brush, other trash and other debris damaged by the wind storm must be disposed of through regular garbage collection, the Greene County brush and debris sites or by contacting your regular trash pickup service.

Disposal of Food and Related Food Items:

·        Strain away liquids and wrap garbage in several layers of newspaper.

·        Food and Food Debris should then be double bagged.  Do not place large amounts of food into each bag.  Limit each bag 20 pounds--this is the weight that most people can safely handle.

·        Bring the bags to the Xenia Demolition Landfill for disposal in the appropriate dumpster.

·        If you have questions regarding your regular trash pick up; contact your trash provider directly.

Special thanks to Xenia Demolition Landfill and the Greene County Commissioners for their cooperation in this endeavor.
