Greene County Safe Communities Program Releases
Greene County Traffic Fatalities Update 

The Greene County Safe Communities program reports that for the month of March 2007, there were three traffic deaths in Greene County.  As of March 31, 2007 there have been four traffic deaths in 2007. This compares with three traffic deaths for the same period in 2006.

 

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, each fatality has a comprehensive cost of $3,366,388 associated with it.  The fatality cost in Greene County for 2007 is now equal to $13,465,552.

 

The leading causes of crashes in Greene County are following too closely, failure to control the vehicle, improper lane changes or driving left of center, unsafe speeds, and failure to yield.  Not wearing a seat belt and drinking and driving are also contributing factors. 

 

Remember to drive defensively and allow extra time to get to the destination.
