GREENE COUNTY COMBINED HEALTH DISTRICT
OFFERS THE HPV VACCINE, GARDASIL

(Xenia, OH) The HPV vaccine, Gardasil, is now available through the Greene County Combined Health District (GCCHD) Immunization clinics.  Gardasil is a three dose vaccine given over a six month period and is recommended for all females 11-12 years of age.  It is also recommended for all teenage and adult women between 13 and 26 years of age if they did not get the vaccine when they were younger.  The vaccine can be administered at the same visit with other vaccines recommended for 11-12 year olds such as Tdap and meningococcal vaccine.

There are many different types of human papillomavirus (HPV) some of which can cause genital warts and cervical cancer.  HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the U.S., and half of those newly infected with HPV are between 15 and 24 years of age.  Every year in the U.S., 10,000 women develop cervical cancer and 4,000 die from the disease.  HPV vaccine protects against 4 major types of HPV.  This includes the 2 types that cause about 70% of cervical cancer and the 2 types that cause about 90% of genital warts.

GCCHD Immunization clinics are held every Tuesday from 8:00-11:00 a.m. and 12:30-3:00 p.m. and the second Thursday of every month from 4:00-6:30 p.m. at 360 Wilson Dr., Xenia. Additional times are available in Beavercreek and Fairborn.  All immunization clinics are walk-in clinics and no appointments are needed.

For additional information regarding Gardasil or the GCCHD Immunization Program, contact GCCHD at (937) 374-5668 or 1-866-858-3588.
