Greene County Combined Health District Announces

Community Flu Clinic for Adults on October 4, 2007

 

(XENIA, OH)  The Greene County Combined Health District (GCCHD) has announced that it will hold a community flu clinic for adults in Xenia on October 4, 2007.  The clinic schedule is as follows:

 

§         Thursday, October 4, 2007:         7 a.m. – 7 p.m. at the Media Center, 541 Ledbetter Rd., Xenia

Starting in November, flu shots will be available for adults and children at GCCHD during regular immunization clinic on Tuesdays, 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

 

As per the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), GCCHD will be providing the flu vaccine to Greene County residents who meet at least one of the following criteria:

 

  1. Children ages 6 months through 59 months, because they are at increased risk for severe complications from flu and because of an increased risk for influenza-associated clinic, emergency department, or hospital visits. Most children require two doses.
  2. Children and adults who are at increased risk for severe complications from influenza ( i.e. asthma, metabolic dysfunctions, immunosupression), and pregnant women.
  3. Adults ages 65 years and older because of an increased risk for severe complications from influenza.
  4. Persons ages 50-64 because of an increased risk for influenza-associated clinic, emergency department, or hospital visits
  5. Healthy household contacts and caregivers of children ages 0 through 59 months and persons at high risk for severe complications from influenza to prevent transmission to persons identified above.  

 

The cost per flu shot is $25.00 for adults and $15.00 for children.  Cash and checks will be accepted.   Medicaid and Medicare Part B (traditional Medicare; no HMOs or managed care Medicare) are the only insurances accepted; card must be shown.

 

Greene County Health Commissioner, Mark A. McDonnell, reminds everyone to maintain good health by washing hands regularly, covering coughs and sneezes, eating a balanced diet, exercising and getting the right amount of sleep.
