Encourages Home Radon Testing

  (XENIA, OH) The Greene County Combined Health District and the Ohio Indoor Air Quality Coalition encourage all Ohio residents to test their homes for radon.  Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that enters homes through cracks and holes in the foundation and can accumulate in indoor environments. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Surgeon General recommend all homes be tested for radon, which is colorless, odorless and tasteless. While exposure to elevated levels can increase one’s risk for developing lung cancer, homeowners can reduce their exposure by testing their homes and taking appropriate actions to reduce elevated levels.

Free radon test kits are available to residents of Greene County through the State Indoor Radon Grant.  Residents may stop by the Greene County Combined Health District, 360 Wilson Dr., Xenia, Mondays – Fridays from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
