(Xenia, OH) The Greene County Combined Health District, a Safe Communities partner with the Ohio Department of Public safety provides county residents some tips on safe driving during snowy weather.
In Ohio in 2002, snow caused 37 fatal crashes, 4,285 injury crashes, and 16,505 property damage crashes.
To ensure safety, Greene County residents are encouraged to prepare their vehicle(s) for the winter season and know how to react if stranded or lost on the road.
Tips include: have a mechanic check vehicle(s); make sure tires have adequate tread; keep a windshield scraper and small broom for ice and snow removal; maintain at least a half tank of gas during the winter season; and plan long trips carefully storing a supply of high energy “munchies” and bottled water.
If you have a cell phone, carry it with you. Take emergency phone number 1-877-7 PATROL along in case assistance is needed.
The “Safe Communities” program was developed through the Ohio Department of Public Safety to establish and/or expand community partnerships to create safer, healthier communities throughout Ohio.
