News ReleaseApril 29, 2003 (937) 374-5600 or 1-866-858-3588 Greene County Combined Health District Awarded (Xenia, OH) The Greene County Combined Health District was awarded a $5,000 contract from the Ohio Department of Health to conduct the Arthritis Friendly County Awareness Campaign in Greene County during May 2003. The Physical
Activity: The Arthritis Pain Reliever Campaign will kickoff on Saturday, May
10, 2003, with a 1-2 mile walk at the Mall at Fairfield Commons from 9:00 a.m.
to 10:0 a.m. Additional community events include: Tai Chi demonstration,
Saturday, May 17th, at the Yellow Springs Library, 415 Xenia Avenue,
from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; gardening for people with Arthritis, Tuesday, May
20th, at Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene, 1850 N. Fairfield Road;
and a water exercise class, Wednesday, May 28th, at Beavercreek YMCA,
560 Grange Hall Road from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It is
estimated that 1 in 3 Americans suffers from some type of arthritis.
The three most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis, rheumatoid
arthritis and fibromyalgia. Regular
exercise has been proven to improve muscular strength and endurance and
flexibility while decreasing the amount of pain associated with the disease.
