About the program The Confidential Counseling and Testing program provides a way for persons at risk for HIV infection to learn their HIV status and to learn how to reduce their risk of HIV infection. No names are used when scheduling appointments. Clients are given a number to identify themselves and their test results. At the time of testing the client chooses either confidential or anonymous testing. The program also provides up-to-date factual information on HIV/AIDS in order to promote responsible decision-making and HIV infection risk reduction.
HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus, the virus that causes AIDS.
Counseling Talking over your risk of HIV infection, how to lower your risk and stay healthy, information on AIDS, and the test itself.
Testing A saliva or blood test looks for antibodies to HIV. This is the only way tell if someone is carrying HIV.
Education Services Educational presentations on HIV/AIDS and its prevention can be provided for interested community groups with at least 3 weeks advance notice. Educational materials (literature and videotapes for loan) are available upon request. Information and referral can be provided over the phone. The anonymous Counseling/Testing program allows for determining clients’ risk for HIV, testing for antibodies, consultation on results and risk reduction, and appropriate referrals as needed.
Cost There is no cost for the anonymous counseling/testing services. Donations are accepted. There is no fee for educations services or presentations.
Appointment Testing requires an appointment, presentations and education services are scheduled on request.
