HOW DO I GET A WATER SAMPLE FOR MY WELL OR PRIVATE WATER SYSTEM?
The Health District collects water samples on private water
systems (wells). There is a fee charged for the sample and the fee does
have to be paid before we can schedule the test. We collect water
samples on Monday’s and Tuesday’s. Please submit the
water sample request form to the
Health District.
MY
WATER SMELLS LIKE SULFUR OR ROTTEN EGGS, WHAT CAN I DO?
This odor is a nuisance or aesthetic problem and is not harmful.
The odor comes from hydrogen sulfide gas dissolved in the water. This is
a natural occurrence in the groundwater. This problem may be temporarily
relieved by chlorinating or disinfecting the well. Please refer to the
disinfecting a drilled well. You
may also refer to the
hydrogen sulfide in drinking water
fact sheet.
DOES
THE HEALTH DISTRICT ONLY TEST FOR BACTERIA?
No. The water system may be tested for lead and nitrates.
However, there are additional fees for these tests.

LOOKING FOR RECORDS ON MY WELL OR PRIVATE WATER SYSTEM, WHERE DO I FIND
THEM?
The Health District offices contain records of most wells and private water systems dating back to around the 1950’s.
Records may be filed under the original owner’s last name since some
records do not have a house number. The Health District’s files are open
for review Monday through Friday 8:00am to 11:00am and 1:00pm to 3:00pm.
The office is closed for lunch from 11:30am to 12:30pm each day.
