 Greene County Safe Communities Program
Releases Greene County Traffic Fatalities Update

 (Xenia, OH) Greene County Combined Health District reported that the Greene County Safe Communities Program released Greene County traffic fatality figures for the month of January 2005.

 During the month of January 2005, there were no Greene County fatalities reported. For the year, Greene County reported zero traffic fatalities (as of January 31, 2005). 2004 figures reflected a total of 14 traffic fatalities.

 According to the National Highway Safety Administration, each fatality has a comprehensive cost of $3,366,388.00 associated with it. The Greene County 2004 fatality cost represented $47,129,432.00.

 Total car crashes in Greene County during 2004 represented 1,549. The leading causes of crashes included: following too closely, failure to control; speeding; failure to yield; and improper lane changes.

 Wearing a seatbelt, not drinking and driving, being aware of those around you, and driving defensively help contribute to a safe trip.

 The Ohio Department of Health developed the Safe Communities Program to establish and/or expand community partnerships to create safer, healthier communities throughout Ohio.
