January 18, 2005
(Xenia, OH) January is National Radon Action Month and Greene County Combined Health District is sponsoring a friendly inter-county radon challenge. Beavercreek, Cedar Cliff, Xenia, and Yellow Springs High Schools will be competing in the Inter-County Radon Challenge.
These High Schools will compete with Montgomery and Clark County High Schools to correctly test the highest percentage of homes. The radon challenge provides science students the opportunity to test their own homes for the presence of radon gas. The high school with the highest percentage of correctly conducted tests will receive recognition and a pizza party reward.
The goal of the Inter-County Radon Challenge is to act on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Surgeon General’s recommendations that all homes be tested for radon. The Health District will provide 600 free test kits from funding received from the Ohio Department of Health Bureau of Radiation Protection. This event will increase testing within the county which is an important goal of the Radon Education Program offered by the Health District.
